First Period; Senators fan-base must have loved the start to this game, an anti-climactic start for the Bruins. This game was deemed the playoff feature in the Atlantic division with the Bruins following closely behind the Senators in the standings.
Minutes into a hyped battle for second place, Derick Brassard threw a loose puck at Rask that beat him five hole. 18:39 Brassard’s 12th on the year assisted by Alexander Burrows (12) and Marc Methot (11).
Dion Phaneuf (18) takes a shot from the Bruins defensive blue line that’s tipped in front of Rask by Jean-Gabriel Pageault for his 7th at 16:35
Play through the first ten minutes is dominated by Ottawa, with goalie Craig Anderson making some key saves on some spectacular shots by the Bruins.
With 1:33 remaining in the first period; 18:27 Patrice Bergeron tracks down a loose puck in the offensive zone and snaps it past Anderson blockerside for his 17th on the season assisted by Torey Krug (37).
End of First 2-1 Senators.
Bruins were outmatched physically. If not for Rask, it would be a blowout. Missed nets and shooting just wide was the Bruins theme for the second period. The way they were playing made it hard to believe they would come out with any points. Bruins were out-shot outplayed and out hit. Nothing more to it. Sloppy.
End of second 2-1 Senators.
The period starts disastrous, Bruins players falling down, and tripping over their own skates. as the Senators keep socking it to them. The Bruins fell with no opponents around them it seems all night. They weren’t ready for this hyped matchup. This is the worst game I’ve seen in the Bruce Cassidy era. If this is a measuring stick, the Bruins have work to do.
7:50 in the third period; Mike Hoffman scores his 20th on the season and Karlsson (46) and Phaneuf (19) with the assists on a power play goal thanks to Pastrnak for high sticking Dion Phaneuf.
Brad Marchand scores his 30th of the season on the doorstep for a power play goal, thanks to Viktor Stralman for interference on David Backes. Marchand did not miss the yawning net. Assisits (Pastrnak 29) and Krug (38)
19:10 in regulation; Alexander Burrows scores his 12th on the season on an open net assisted by Stone (27) and Karlsson (47)
End of regulation 4-2 Senators
- Dion Phaneuf – 2 assists
- Erik Karlsson – 2 assists
- Jean-Gabriel Pageault – goal
