On Tuesday, January 31st, at 7:30pm ET, the Boston Bruins (25-21-6) will visit the Tampa Bay Lightning (22-22-6). An Atlantic Division showdown to start the second half of the season’s push for the playoffs.

The Lightning are returning from the All-Star break with a 4-game homestand. Currently they sit 6 points out of a wild card spot with 2 games in hand on the Bruins. Similar to the Bs season, Tampa has gone up and down and faced its series of injuries. With 50 points in 50 games, they are down from where they stood this time last year. With a very similar roster to last years Eastern Conference finalists, Tampa truly believes they can turn things around in make another push to the playoffs. Prior to the break, the lightning went on a 6-game road trip and came out with 6 out of a possible 12 points. Getting back on track for the lightning begins with earning as many points as possible during this homestand.

Before heading into the All-Star break, Claude Julien appeared to once again be on the chopping block. And, once again the Bruins gathered some points and seemed to get on the right track. They went into the break winning both of their last two games against Detroit and Pittsburgh to earn 56 points and the last playoff spot in the Atlantic. With the playoff race extremely close in the division, consistency is the clear theme for the remainder of the season. During the month of January, the Bruins have gone 5-6-2. It is crucial to end the month with 2 points. They do have a back-to-back as they head to Washington tomorrow night. However, the Bs only have 10 games in the month of February. With probably the most relaxing month of hockey for the team, it is crucial to get as many points as possible in the next 11 games, before heading into the hectic playoff rush of March and April. The team understands what is at stake and knows they have to come out every night ready to play. It is now just a matter of executing.
