On Thursday, February 23rd, at 10:30pm ET, the Boston Bruins (30-24-6) will visit the Los Angeles Kings (29-26-4).

Need to know: Kings

Much like the Bruins, the Kings are currently on the outside of a playoff position. They sit two points behind Calgary with a game in hand and three points behind Nashville. LA’s chances of gaining on a top three spot in their division are slim, but the wild card is definitely up for grabs. This game is very important for both teams going in. The Kings are coming off of a 2-1 win over Colorado, but are 2-5 in their last seven. LA ranks 24th in goals per game at 2.44 and 4th in goals against at 2.42. Right now, the Kings are tied with Winnipeg in points at 62 but the Kings have played four less games. While the Jets head to their bye week, it is important for the Kings to get as many points as possible in the next handful of games to separate themselves from the Jets.

Need to know: Bruins

This is the second game of a back to back for the Bruins and the third of four games in this West Coast road trip. Late last night the Bs fell to the Ducks 5-3 and are now 4-1 under Bruce Cassidy. The Bruins went into last night in the first spot out of the playoffs. After Florida fell to Edmonton, the Bruins were actually in a playoff spot while in action. But, after losing they are now two spots out of playoffs coming into tonight. There is a three way tie for points at 66 with Boston, Florida, and the New York Islanders. However the Isles currently have the upper hand with one less game played.

While the winning steak came to end last night, the offense still found some success. The Bs have scored 19 goals in the five games under Cassidy including three last night. David Backes has five points in five games as well. Being led by 25-goal scorers Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, and by looking at where the Kings rank in goals against, the Bs should hope to score at least three goals and come away with two points tonight.
