Pacific Division as it stands March 1:

Divisional Matchups of the Week:
Anaheim @ Los Angeles 2/25 – ANA 1, LAK 4
San Jose @ Vancouver 2/25 – SJS 4, VAN 1
Los Angeles @ Calgary 2/28 – LAK 1, CGY 2 (OT)

Welcome to the Pacific Division Vegas Golden Knights! As of today, March 1, the NHL’s latest expansion team is officially part of the league.

Calgary Getting Hot
The Flames are red hot right now, pun fully intended. They are 5-0 in their last five games and 6-0-1 in their last seven. The four wins this past week moved them into the first wild card spot. While they are still fourth in the division, they have closed the gap on Anaheim. While Anaheim is finishing up their bye week, they lost their last game against the Kings. With the Flames hot streak, the Ducks are only two points up with a game in hand. However, they are pushing away from the Kings, who are six points back with a game in hand. Last night was a very entertaining game between the two teams, as Calgary came away with the overtime win. The last time these teams met, was November 5th, where LA came away with a 4-0 victory. In the last 20 games or so of the regular season, these two divisional opponents will play three more times. If Calgary continues to stay hot, the games may not mean as much. But, with wild card spots still up for grabs in the West, these matchups are definitely something to watch for. San Jose still keeps the number one spot in the division with 61 points, after going 2-0 this week.

Trade Talk
While San Jose maintains the number one spot in the Pacific and seventh in the league, they acquired Jannik Hansen from the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver also traded away forward Alex Burrows to the Ottawa Senators. The Edmonton Oilers looked for more depth defensively and traded for defenseman Brandon Davidson from Montreal. One of the bigger headlines after today’s trade deadline was Arizona trading away forward Martin Hanzal to the Wild. They were also active with a number of smaller deals today as well.

Overall, this week did not return any changes in the overall standings of the division.
