The defense has been doing big things this preseason. I know, I know, the preseason does not really count for much, but it is important to make sure the coaches assess the talent this team has. It is coming down to the wire and by Saturday, the rosters have to be finalized to 53 players. This week, some huge decisions have to be made and as fans, we want to make sure we have a Super Bowl worthy team. That’s a lot of pressure, Bill and Company. Good luck.
The Patriots play their final preseason game at the Giants on Thursday. This will be the closing act to show the coaches what each player can do. It is important to stay focused, stay healthy, play hard and give it your all.
In the first preseason game against the Saints, the Patriots forced four turnovers. Those turnovers converted into 22 points! Jabaal Sheard and Trey Flowers each forced a fumble and Jamie Collins and Cre’von LeBlanc intercepted the football.
Rookie Cyrus Jones continued to make a name for himself on this team. He recorded his second interception by game two against the Bears. Then, in the last game against Carolina, Jones also returned a punt 60 yards! As New England’s first pick in the draft, which was 60th overall, it sure looks like they got a steal with this kid.
By the third game, the defense was really on a roll. Logan Ryan, Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon all intercepted Carolina’s quarterbacks and the defense shut out the Panthers in the first half. These guys definitely came to play.
Of course, you know Belichick and Patricia will say there are things they can work on and there are things they can do better. I agree because no team is perfect. The defense has been impressive in these first three games and with continued drive and determination; these guys could be in the top five defenses in the league.
Do you guys think this defense has the chance to be in the top five in the NFL?
