The Celtics look to close out their preseason on a strong note tonight. They take on the New York Knicks in Boston with tip off around 7:37. Live stream at for cable subscibers.

This is the final preseason game, so this is the last chance for several players to make their mark. Jalen Jones, Damion Lee and Marcus Georges-Hunt have had a combined 14 minutes of playing time this preseason. These guys could really use the exposure, and will play hard if given the chance. Currently, they are likely Maine bound to play for the Celtics affiliate team. But, other teams may be interested in them if they can show some skill.

Ben Bentil is basically locked in to playing with the Maine Red Claws this season. He is a big that looks to score any time he touches the ball. If he gets playing time he should score in the double digits.

The battle for roster spots in Maine is not the main story in tonight’s game. Jordan Mickey, R. J. Hunter and James Young are in a battle for the final two roster spots. I would like to think that Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens already know who is departing. So, this game may not be of major consequence to that decision. Yet, I don’t think the players know, and one of them is going to be looking for a job in a few days. All three players are young and playing well this preseason. Next season the roster sizes should be expanding, but that’s next year. As a result tonight will be the last game in green this season for one of these guys.

Tonight is also the cusp of the regular season. The last game that doesn’t really count. This has been a long, meaningful-game-less summer, and I’m ready already. It’s about time to really ramp up and get excited for what will be a great season of basketball across the NBA.
