First period:

Game underway. Good tempo by both teams through the opening minutes. Great saves made at both ends of the ice. Penguins commit four icings but the Bruins were unable to capitalize on the offensive zone faceoffs. Rask stopped everything in front of him, with help from the post on one by Phil Kessel. He had great vision through the modified first period. Matt Murray was just as stifling.

Through the first 10 minutes the Penguins had only 1.5 minutes more attacking zone time but seemed more on the cusp of making something happen than the Bruins.

Teams took first intermission with 6:26 left in the period. The Bruins looked revitalized briefly after the break. Brad Marchand specifically. Petr Hornqvist, who has his gloves cemented on; went after the smaller Torey Krug but was intercepted by officials. Bruins again victims of blocked shots and missed nets. Murray looked shaken up after a crashed net scoring opportunity by Tim Schaller

Underway. Goal 00.18 in Conor Sheary connects with Sidney Crosby who puts a pass right on Bryan Rust’s tape who beats Rask gloveside for his 12th on the season.

1-0 Pittsburgh.

Bruins looked lifeless through the first five minutes. Then Murray became the story early in second period. Attacking zone time is pretty much even at 15:00 mark around 9:00 each.

Goal 10:54 Conor Sheary from Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby. A scramble in front of net and the puck finds Sheary with an open net for his 16th on the season.

2-0 Pittsburgh.

Power play Boston 2:00 for a hit into the boards on Torey Krug by Jake Guentzel. at 9:35 mark. Penalty killed off.

The Penguins have blocked 17 shots to the Bruins 3 with 8:12 to go in the period. Four takeaways for the Penguins to the Bruins one.

Bruins Goal 6:11 David Krejci took a beautiful pass from David Pasternak and ripped one home on Matt Murray stickside. Kerejci’s 11th on the season.

2-1 Pittsburgh.

David Backes in all alone for a great opportunity, moved to his backhand but Murray didn’t bite.

Power play Boston 17:22 on Cameron Gaunce for tripping Marchand. Great chances on the man advantage. The Bruins attacked the net with 5-7 shots total on Murray. Penalty killed off. Signs of life for the Bruins.

Shots 2nd period: 22 – 12 in favor of Bruins

Third period:

Underway. Marchand immediately gets a great scoring chance on Murray. Murray prevailed.

Goal 18:20 Petr Hornqvist collects and buries a rebound given up by Zane McIntyre on multiple shots from the point from Ruhwedel and Malkin. Hornqvist’s 11th of the season.

Goal 17:01 Conor Sheary Shelves his 17th on the season from Rust and Schultz

4-1 Penguins.

2 goals, 1:19 minutes apart. The Bruins were not looking good after a better 2nd period.

This was the team advertised in the pregame. They were imposing their will and made it glaringly insurmountable for the Bruins.

Captain Sidney Crosby was a force today in the 5-1 blowout vs the Bruins

Matt Murray was spectacular. Tempers flared at the period’s 8:04 mark when Malkin taking liberties, cross checking Dominic Moore after a save by Zane McIntyre after the whistle.  There was a response by Joe Morrow  when Cameron Gaunce tried coming to Malkin’s aid. Gaunce looked happy escaping without Morrow fully getting to him as the refs restrained him.

Boston Power play 8:04 matching penalties after the scrum in front of McIntyre extra 2:00 to Malkin for the first crosscheck. Penalty killed.

With 37.5 seconds remaining in the game Matt Beleskey and Scott Wilson exchange matching fighting major penalties.

Game ends with a full on Ice gathering between the teams pushing and shoving. Nothing as the refs disperse the crowd.
