Lost in the hoopla of the best win of the year was the return of Andrew Benintendi. After being reinstated from the disabled list on Tuesday, Benintendi finally got in to a game. He started and batted 9th. The current #2 prospect in the Sox organization has been out since August 25th with a knee injury. He went one for three in his return. Chris Young pinch hit for him in the ninth.

When Benintendi first came up to the club, he sparked some excitement on the team. He may just have been the spark that helped bring the Sox back from the dead. Since starting his stint in the Bigs, he is batting .324 with 7 doubles, one triple, one home run, 10 RBI’s, 4 walks, 11 runs and 23 hits. Plus, who can forget that amazing catch in Tampa?!

It looks like he will compete with Chris Young for playing time going forward. Since Young came off the DL, he has been hitting as well. It looks like Brock Holt won’t be playing left field anymore. Before Benintendi was activated on Tuesday, John Farrell said “The fact that we got him (Benintendi) back with 15-18 games remaining is a hell of a lot more than we anticipated when he cane off the field in Tampa. We are just looking at it as a plus.”

Benintendi has been fitted with a brace. He said he is pain free and sometimes forgets which knee he injured. He passed all of the tests to get back and play. He should be a great asset to have the rest of the season and into the playoffs. Last night it didn’t look like there was any rust or cobwebs for him.
