With another week down in the NHL. It is again time to hand out the 3 stars of the week.

3 Stars: Ben Bishop- G Tampa Bay Lightning

  • The goalie for the Lightning had a great week. Earning two victories in his 2 starts this week against a weak Colorado Avalanche team and a very talented Edmonton Oilers team. He ended the week 2-0 with a .940 save percentage. He stopped 47 of the 50 shots he faced in the games.
  • Tampa Bay has been struggling this year, especially with the loss of Steven Stamkos, so any win they can get is huge. They are still technically in playoff contention 6 points back of the 8th placed Toronto Maple Leafs. These two wins were big for them and Ben Bishop is deserving of the 3 stars this week. He looks to continue his success against the Ottawa Senators, Monday February 27th.

2 Stars: Filip Forsberg- LW Nashville Predators

  • The young star left-wing for the Nashville Predators had a huge week. Forsberg put up 6 goals and 1 assist this week for Nashville. He led Nashville to a 2-0-1 record this week. Forsberg had back to back games with hat tricks against Calgary and Colorado. An incredible feat for a player in this tough of a league.
  • Nashville sits in the last wild card spot in the West with 67 points, 5 points ahead of Los Angeles. Forsberg leads the Predators in points this year with 42, 22 goals and 20 assists. He looks to continue his hot streak against the Washington Capitals Saturday Night at 5pm EST.

1 Star: Jonathon Toews- C Chicago Blackhawks

  • The number 1 star of the week is Jonathon Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks. The star center of the Blackhawks had a great week with 8 points, 4 goals and 4 assists including a 5 point game against Minnesota. During that game Toews put up a hat trick, helping Chicago gain points on the One seed in the West. Toews led Chicago to 3-0 this week, beating Arizona, Minnesota and Buffalo.
  • Chicago now sits 3 points behind Minnesota for first place in the Western Conference with 81 points. Toews now has 44 points on the year with 15 goals and 29 assists. It looks to be a tight race for 1st place in the West the rest of the year. Toews will be a huge part of Chicago going into the rest of the year and the playoffs. The Blackhawks and Toews look to continue their run against the St. Louis Blues Sunday February 26th.

This wraps up another great week in the NHL. I’ll be back here in a week to hand out another 3 stars.
